An Augusta woman and her then-boyfriend accused of child abuse after 5-year-old was seen with a cut and bruising at a local hospital pleaded guilty to reduced charges Thursday, June 9.

Travares S. Mack, 42, and Tyshika K. Minor, 35, pleaded guilty in Richmond County Superior Court to misdemeanor charges of family violence battery and cruelty to children. Each was sentenced to two years’ probation, Minor under the First Offender Act.

Mack and Minor were both charged with felony child abused in the Nov. 11, 2016, incident. With the passage of so much time and conflicting statements about who was responsible, Thursday’s plea agreement was the best way to hold the two accountable and ensure if there is any future allegation of abuse it would be a felony offense, said Assistant District Attorney Justin Mullis.

The child is in the custody of his father.
