It’s a show Mickey Lubeck has been trying to bring to the stage for close to a year.

“Tuck Everlasting” will be performed at Fort Gordon Dinner Theatre for two weekends beginning Feb. 12.

Last spring, Lubeck’s Musical Theatre Workshop students were preparing “Tuck Everlasting” when the pandemic hit. She was able to produce a pared down version, but it wasn’t what she’d intended, and it wasn’t open to the public. What she brings to the stage next month is better than she imagined, she said.

“This is a non-professional, professional show,” said Lubeck. “It has evolved from my musical with my teen ensemble to include local adult and young adult actors.”

Since she had most of the pieces already in place, it was easier to fit the show into the dinner theater season, and finally bring Lubeck’s vision into reality.

“Tuck Everlasting” is about an 11-year-old girl who wants a life of adventure. When she discovers the Tuck family beyond her picket fence, she gets more than she ever dreamed. But she’s faced with a choice – stay with the Tucks and the promise of eternal life or return to her ordinary world.

Lubeck said people want to get out and have a theater experience.

“Dinner theater produced a Christmas show, and it sold out in two weeks,” she said.

There are multiple COVID-19 precautions in place.

While dinner is served prior to the show, people are seated with their own parties; they do not share tables with anyone outside their group.

All of the dinnerware is disposable, and the food is served behind plexiglass shields. Patrons must wash their hands prior to entering the theater. Masks are required in the common areas. Any patron with a fever will not be allowed to enter.

The staff will follow those guidelines plus multiple others including wearing disposable gloves and washing their hands more frequently.

There’s reduced capacity in the theater from 230 people to 150 people. The check-in station is outside the theater instead of inside. Floor markings and barriers inside the building help with moving around the building safely.

The dinner theater menu will include shallot-rubbed sliced roast beef with burgundy gravy, lemon pepper cod topped with dill and lemon zest, mashed potatoes, squash casserole, mixed green salad and pineapple upside-down cake.

The performance will be at 8 p.m. Feb. 12, 13, 19, and 20 and at 3 p.m. Feb. 14 and 21.

Tickets are $53 for civilians, $50 for senior citizens 65 and older, Department of the Army civilians, military retirees and active duty E7 and above; $40 for students with ID and active duty E6 and below; $35 for the show with coffee and dessert only; and $28 for the show only.
