Katherine Scales Patterson Lethgo, 86, widow of James Robert Patterson and Wayne Samuel Lethgo, entered into rest on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. Katherine was born in New York City on July 9,1935 and moved to Augusta in 1942. She was the oldest daughter of Lois and Wallace Scales. She attended William Robinson Elementary School, Tubman High School and Richmond Academy, graduating in 1953. Katherine went on to attend college at Salem College in Winston Salem, NC. She was an active member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, serving on the Diaconate. She was also a member of The Wood Valley Garden Club, The Junior League and The BBB’s Investment Club. Family members include her sons: James Robert Patterson, Jr. (Aryne) of Crystal River, FL and Douglas Scales Patterson (Jack Johnson) of Palm Springs, CA; and her sister: Toni Scales Corpening of Winston Salem, NC. Katherine is also survived by her beloved nieces: Palmer Davison Ball (Michael) of Spartanburg, SC, Wallace Davison Prestwood (Bill) of Charlotte, NC, Lois Fortson Brantley (Allen) of Charlotte, NC and her great nieces and nephews: Anne Dobson Ball, Taylor Davison Ball of Spartanburg, SC and Harriet Dobson Brantley and David Allen Brantley, Jr. of Charlotte, NC. She is predeceased by her sister, Lois Scales Jorrel, who passed in 2020. The memorial service will be held on Friday, March 11, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Nadine Ellsworth-Moran and Rev. Boyd Lien officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, 2261 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30904.
