Leonard Anthony (Tony) Simmons, Sr, 74, of Augusta, Georgia, passed away on April 26, 2022. Tony was born on September 24, 1947 in Hanford, California. After Tony graduated from Butler High School in 1966, he joined the United States Air Force. Tony served honorably for 20 years and retired at the rank of Master-Sargent (MSgt E-8) in 1986. Throughout his career in the military he served in the Vietnam War, and was also stationed at Laughlin AFB in Del Rio, Texas; Moody AFB Valdosta, Georgia, Craig AFB in Selma, Alabama, and RAF Lakenheath in England. After retiring from the Air Force he started working at AAFES (Army Air Force Exchange Services) as the manager of the Automotive Service Station and later as the manager of the Military Clothing Sales Store, where he retired ending another rewarding career. Tony enjoyed camping and spending time with his family. Before his wife passed away they enjoyed many travels to various camping locations across the southeast. Their favorite camping companions were Skip & Pat Walton, Elaine & George Intracaso, and many other close friends. Tony was preceded in death by Diane Stowell Simmons (Wife). He is survived by Melissa Simmons (Daughter), Cheryl Simmons (Daughter-in-Law), Jordan Simmons (Granddaughter), FaLisa Daughtry (Daughter), Leonard Simmons Jr (Son), AJ Simmons (Grandson), Jackie Simmons (Daughter-in-Law), Nancy Quilal-lan (Sister), Tammy Miles (Sister), Carol Mullins (Sister), Maranda Miles (Niece), Jaclyn Quilal-lan (Niece), Aaron Quilal-lan (Nephew), Jesse Quilal-lan (Nephew), along with uncles, aunts, cousins and many close friends who were like family to him. There will be a Celebration of life held on May 21, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Lake Springs Recreation Area (Mallard Point Pavilion) at Clarks Hill Lake off of Georgia Highway 221.
