Opinion: It’s a Clean Audit

Author

Let me start by congratulating the City of Augusta for another outstanding audit.

I was informed this makes six straight years of impeccable financial status. The City of Augusta voluntarily conducts an audit each year. This year, just like last year, the auditor said that Augusta went beyond ex...

  1. Regarding the city audit: Are you telling us that the CPA firm that completed the audit for the city had no issues with any of the financial spending and/or the financial reporting systems in place? Are you saying that there were no issues with not having receipts for questionable expenditures? Will we ever see a lust if issues identified and issues corrected or not corrected? Just what type of audit was this?

  2. Sounds like the “clean audit” only checked for math errors. Knowing Augusta-Richmond County, the CPA firm is probably owed by one of Hardie Davis’ friends, political associates, or a strip club owner, and performed without a commission-approved contract that defined the scope and depth of the audit. We need a FOIA request to review that contract. As always, Mr. Meyers is full of contrarian positions and himself.

    • Tedd … I like to cover all sides or give as much information as possible. I try not to be one sided – I understand that you have an agenda. You do know you don’t have to read my columns – if you don’t like them. Otherwise, I thank you for your continued support and being a great cheerleader for me.

  3. An audit means someone with no skin in the game not some auditing firm you pay for the right answers..once again Augusta is a joke and people like Hardee get away with financial malfeasance with no repercussions…in the private business world you have to have a expense account for all credit card purchases along with receipts..anyone that thinks Hardee’s credit card spending is on the up and up should get their head checked..also? In the private business world you would be fired for the kind of spending he has done. He’s also bypassed city procedure on several items he used the credit card for. Keep putting these “preachers” in office. His tenure as mayor has been exactly what I expected from him..me me me what’s in it for me..

  4. The city will pay for a clean bill of health using tax payers money and will only use companies that give them what they want in a report. I’ve seen this many times in the past years. Only a true and compete audit will tell the truth on what’s taking place in Augusta government. The Mayor and several commissioners are working overtime to stop any audit that will expose the truth. Bring on the FBI, GBI and IRS. It’s apparent that this company missed many items Sammy has been involved in for several years!!!!!!.
