Editors note: Original article was updated at 2:50 p.m. Feb. 1 and again on Feb. 2 when new information came in from coroner’s office.
The Richmond County Coroner’s Office as identified the man killed in a fatal accident Feb. 1 on Deans Bridge Road as 81-year-old Lewis Melson of Sylvania.
The accident closed a portion of Deans Bridge Road at the intersection with Willis Foreman Road.
According to Mark Bowen, the Richmond County Coroner, Melson was taken to Augusta University Medical Center after the crash where he was pronounced dead. Melson was traveling southbound on Deans Bridge Road when the crash occurred.
Melson was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the press release from the coroner’s office.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, one northbound and one southbound lane of Deans Bridge Road were blocked Feb. 1 while deputies investigate this accident. Motorists are encouraged to seek an alternate route.
Um, one person was killed whose identity remains unknown? I may venture a guess that his name is Lewis Melson. I don’t know. I’m not sure. I’m just getting a reading from the Universe.
In MOST cases, seatbelts do give you a chance at survival. Buckle Up.
