A 10-year-old girl from Wagener died Friday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle while crossing New Holland Road, according to Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables.

The incident occurred around 4:20 p.m. in the 3000 block of New Holland Road. The child, identified as Tara Graham, was attempting to cross the road when she was hit by a Ford Expedition.

Tara was transported by Aiken County EMS to Prisma Health Richland emergency room, where she succumbed to her injuries at 5:51 p.m., Ables said.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office and S.C. Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate the incident. An autopsy is scheduled for next week in Newberry.

The Graham family released this statement: ““Our hearts are shattered as we grieve the loss of our beloved daughter Tara Lorraine. No parent should ever have to plan their child’s funeral, yet here we are facing the unimaginable. … We are deeply grateful for your love, support, and prayers as we navigate this loss. Your kindness means more than words can express.”
