Dear Editor,
If, in the past few years, you have been paying attention to our most curious state of political confusion, you will probably join me in wondering just how we could have possibly arrived at this truly bizarre juncture. Somehow, we have arrived at a place where good old common sense appears to have been completely abandoned by 20-30% of the country. These folks, primarily Democrat party leaders have dug in their heels and in the face of overwhelming public popularity to the contrary, they continue to advocate for policies that defy common sense. The biggest issues of our decade are and continue to be, border security, reduction in the size of government (in local, state and federal jurisdictions), inflation and crime suppression. Various national polls show 60-80% of people want these issues to be resolved and agree with the current administration’s approach. (There are other significant issues such as abortion, and health care costs, etc. but these do not have such dramatically one-sided poll results.) The entrenched, ideologically driven, socialist, Democrat leadership has continued to move further and further to the left and has effectively left its grass roots constituency wondering what has happened. Not withstanding their confusion and dismay, many Democrats continue to blindly vote for their party, even though it no longer represents their position(s) and arguably, their best interest. In recent years the biggest single group of Americans (approximately 35%) now identify as centrists and come from both major parties. Among independent voters the number rises to a whopping 60%. These are the votes that each party knows that they must obtain in order to win any major election. The strange fact is that the current Democrat party leadership is ignoring this and continues to lean far left. Even stranger is the fact that many old time Democrat voters continue to support the bizarre policies of their party, even when those policies work to their detriment. Indeed, the Democrat party has no apparent policy solutions to offer us. They continue to use character assassination and identity politics in an attempt to demonize everyone from centrist to far right radicals. But, incredibly, they have as yet to offer us any major policy alternatives which pass the commonsense test. It is little wonder that confusion reigns. If the Democrat party is to remain as a viable force in American politics, their membership is going to have to come to grips with reality. The current Democrat party leadership has gone rogue. They do not represent the vast majority of the membership and must be replaced with people who demonstrate plain old common sense and have a rational grasp of the issues which face us all.
Sincerely,
Phillip A Williams
