Two pedestrian fatalities reported in Augusta

Richmond County authorities are handling two unrelated incidents of traffic deaths from Friday, Jan. 6.

April Nicole Harrod, 35, of the 3100 block of Mike Padgett Highway, was struck by a vehicle on the 3100 block of Mike Padgett Highway. Harrod was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:28 p.m. Friday, Coroner Mark Bowen said.

Thomas “Tommy” West Jr., 60, of the 3000 block of Jessie Way was struck by a vehicle on Peach Orchard Road at Byrd Road on Friday night. West was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:11 p.m. Friday, the coroner said.

Details are limited, but the sheriff’s traffic division answered a call to the 3700 block of Peach Orchard Road and Byrd Road with a fatal accident. A press release at 8:49 p.m. Friday asked drivers to seek alternative routes.

At 6:48 p.m. Friday, the traffic division responded to the 3300 block of Mike Padgett Highway for a fatality accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
