5-year-old girl killed after being struck by vehicle in Aiken front yard

A 5-year-old girl was tragically killed in Aiken on Wednesday afternoon when a car struck her while entering her front yard, authorities said.

The girl, identified as Merinn Purcell, was in the front yard of the home when she was struck by a vehicle entering the property, Chief Deputy Coroner Eric Ramey said. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene at 4:36 pm from injuries sustained in the accident.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office along with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are continuing with the investigation.
