7 Brew Coffee tries for Washington Road location

Date: August 11, 2022

7 Brew Drive Thru Coffee is still planning to set root in the CSRA. The Arkansas-based café chain has another location under review with the Augusta Planning Department, this one on Washington Road.

The franchise’s first attempt to set up shop in Augusta was June 21, when it submitted plans to build a restaurant at 2915 Peach Orchard Rd.

By July 21, Augusta Planning and Development had disapproved the project, with rejections of the plans by the Engineering and Utilities Departments and the Tree Commission.

As of July 29, Planning and Development has a 7 Brew coffee shop plans at 3038 Washington Rd. under evaluation. The parcel, currently the site of an abandoned hotel, would place the café a few blocks down the street from competitors Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts.

The Engineering and Utilities departments and the Geographic Information System (GIS) Division have cited several concerns in their reviews of the plans, so far, including the proposed site’s incongruity with the county’s water service lines and a potential need to change the address.

7 Brew, known for its specialty coffees, sodas and dessert drinks, has most of its locations concentrated along or near the southernmost Midwest. Most of them are in its home state of Arkansas, as well as Oklahoma, Texas and Missouri, as well as two in Greenville, S.C.
