Rising sophomores, juniors and seniors in Georgia have an opportunity to learn about wildlife conservation hands-on.
Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia will be hosting the 62nd annual Natural Resources Conservation Workshop (NRCW) on its campus this summer, and registration opened earlier this month. The college summer camp is designed to educate students about the “value, protection and conservation” of Georgia’s wildlife and natural resources, including the mining industry.
This unique brush with college life can also offer insight into various careers via its counselors: the workshop is largely comprised of classroom instruction from various natural resource professionals. There will also be field trips to places like the Blue Ridge Mountain and Limestone Valley conservation districts for experiential learning; and natural resource-themed recreational activities.
There may even be opportunities for scholarships: the NRCW award a limited number of college scholarships based on scores of the workshop exam, along with other criteria. Soil and Water Conservation districts are also offering sponsorships for eligible students to attend at no cost.
The workshop is a coordinated effort sponsored by the Georgia Association of Conservation Districts and the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Society, alongside the college, with several state agencies participating, including the Forestry Commission and the state Department of Natural Resources.
The Natural Resource Conservation Workshop will take place on June 11-16. Registration is available through May 1. For more information visit www.abac.edu/nrcw, or www.gacd.us.
