The Christmas Parade is returning to North Augusta this December.

Members of North Augusta Council voted unanimously to grant a permit for the return of one of the city’s favorite holiday traditions, which is sponsored by the North Augusta Lions Club.

It will be held Sunday, Dec. 5 starting at 3 p.m. It will include the arrival of Santa Claus riding in on his signature fire truck.

Terra Carroll of the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce said this year’s theme is “A Disney Christmas.” That was to be the theme for the 2020 parade that was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Mayor Briton Williams noted the Lions Club was the first civic club established in the city of North Augusta.

“What they have done for this community, taking over the Christmas parade and to get that back again this year downtown,” he noted. “To be able to see people out and about is going to be really exciting.”

This will be the 40th year the club has coordinated the parade.

Carroll also announced the Grand Marshals will be the 2020 North Augusta High School girls’ basketball championship team, led by Coach Al Young.

Parade entries will be judged on creativity and overall appearance with trophies awarded for first, second and third place in the commercial and non-commercial categories.

Participant fees are $20 for non-commercial entries, and $50 for commercial entries. Participants are urged to register early. Deadline for all participants wishing to register is Tuesday, Nov 30.

Parade entry forms are available at the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce at 406 West Avenue and on the Chamber’s website calendar.
