Acrobats, jugglers and a touch a magic come together for a new holiday production.
A Magical Cirque Christmas will be at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Bell Auditorium.
And magic is a key word as well as a key element in this show with its hostess Lucy Darling, a character created by magician Carisa Hendrix.
“I created her about four or five years ago,” Hendrix said.
Over the years, she’s come up with a variety of personas to serve as a vehicle for her magic acts. Some of the personalities she’s created aren’t as family friendly, but Lucy is perfect for all ages.
“Lucy is a bit of a trickster,” she said.
When they were forming the script for this production, the first thought was to make Lucy a fairy, but with Lucy’s mischievous side, producers decided to make her more of a sprite instead.

Hendrix is known for her blend of comedy and magic.
The Canadian magician was the 2019 Academy of Magical Arts Magic Castle stage magician of the year; and the 2019 Allan Slaight Award winner. Her persona of Lucy Darling appeared on “Penn and Teller: Fool Us.” While she didn’t fool the magic greats, she did enjoy being able to perform for two of the magicians who influenced her career.
“It was a huge honor,” she said.

Hendrix had a role in the creation of A Magical Cirque Christmas. She and its producers spent six months on Zoom with part of the team in the United States and another part in Canada working out the details.
She said it was the first time she’d been so involved in such a large-scale production.
The night is about excitement and has a wow factor with the incredibly talented acrobats and other circus performers who bring to life the night, she said.

There’s also a blend of music from different era.
“It’s time travel through music,” she said.
From the 1920s glitz and glam to the 80s and 90s, the music has a wide range of styles.
A Magical Cirque Christmas is a whirlwind of a tour for Hendrix who will perform in about 30 shows in 27 cities before it comes to an end, but she’s excited for the opportunity and hopes audiences will join her.
Tickets for A Magical Cirque Christmas are $59.25 to $89.75 and are available at aectix.com.
