South Georgia Homes is looking to revise plans for homes it’s building for the Wright’s Farm neighborhood in Grovetown.
On July 11, the Augusta homebuilder submitted three major planned unit development (PUD) revision requests to Columbia County’s planning department for lots at 2335, 2339 and 2341 Laurens St.
The applications seek to update the plans for three home lots from slide by driveway to front entry garage.
In a letter to the planning department attached to the request, company president Keith Blaschke explained that, during the permitting process of the subject addresses, South Georgia Homes missed a note on the front page of the plats that several Wright’s Farm lots were designated slide by driveway lots. The contractor received approval for building front load garages on June 7.
The letter goes on to say that the builder had submitted building permits for slide by driveway homes at two nearby lots on Laurens Street, and for rear-entry homes on three other lots along the same street, “to show there was no intent… to deviate from the original recorded plat.”
The letter attributes the oversight to the developer having also acquired permits for, built and closed front-entry garage homes on 2310, 2314, 2316 and 2318 Laurens St., directly across the street from the subject properties.
Atul Patel has submitted a rezoning request for his Speedy Mart store at 6697 Washington Road in Appling. Patel is petitioning to change his property from C-C Community Commercial to C-2 General Commercial, in order to open a liquor store in the area.
In an accompanying narrative document, Patel states that he acquired approval for a liquor license at the location in 2022, which didn’t materialize.
The Columbia County Planning Commission is scheduled to hear both matters (totaling five agenda items) in its meeting on Aug. 17.
