A passion for rock ‘n’ roll and a love of the music of AC/DC are the two main reasons Chris “The Hair” Jones can play the same songs on a nightly basis and still want to play them again and again.

“It never gets old,” said Jones, 26, the bassist for Thunderstruck: America’s AC/DC, who will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2, at the Columbia County Performing Arts Center.

Jones grew up playing the drums before switching to guitar. When Kevin Feller decided to form the group and ask Jones to play bass, Jones didn’t hesitate. He immediately purchased a bass and started learning the songs.

AC/DC has great riffs, but the spaces in between also make the overall sound powerful, said Jones.

AC/DC was formed in Australia in 1973 by two Scottish brothers, Angus and Malcolm Young. The heavy rock songs the band is known for include “Back In Black,” “Highway To Hell” and “Hells Bells.

Jones said the tribute group plays all the favorites from over the years.

It’s hard rock at its best, and the concert will be loud, he said

Thunderstruck: America’s AC/DC works to create the AC/DC sound but also the look of the band including Angus Young’s schoolboy uniform.

Tyler Melen, who takes the role of Angus in the show, taught himself guitar in his garage and emulated Angus’s moves, according to the band’s website. He’s been with other AC/DC tribute groups, and he’s even caught the attention of AC/DC. He was featured in the band’s 2015 “Rock The Blues Away” music video.

Jones said Melen is full of energy and gives a great performance.

Band members range in age from 26 to 61. They don’t claim to be AC/DC but just want to pay homage to a band that’s impacted them.

“We know we’re not AC/DC,” said Jones. “We’re humbled in what we do. We’re five guys playing music we love.”

Thunderstruck: America’s AC/DC is the first traveling act to perform at the Columbia County Performing Arts Center, according to Robert Kovach, producer/promoter, who is scheduling the season.

Tickets for Thunderstruck: America’s AC/DC are $49.95-$71.55 and are available at ticketmaster.com.
