The Aiken County Coroner’s Office is currently investigating a fatal single-vehicle accident that occurred Wednesday morning at 9:50 a.m. on Green Pond Road at Modoc Lane.

The incident claimed the life of 18-year-old Emily Heath, an Aiken teenager.

According to preliminary reports, the driver was operating a 2007 Mercury SUV, traveling north on Green Pond Road. The vehicle crossed the centerline, leading to an overcorrection that caused it to veer off the right side of the roadway, Coroner Darryl Ables said. The SUV ultimately collided with a tree.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, but, unfortunately, Heath was pronounced deceased on site due to injuries sustained in the accident.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office, in collaboration with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, is actively conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. As part of the standard procedure, toxicology analysis is pending to gather more insights into the incident.
