An agent with local ties has been named special agent in charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Cyber Crime Center in Augusta.

Sara Lue began her law enforcement career with the Richmond County Marshal’s Office in 2011, then joined the GBI in 2012. Her first assignment was with the GBI Region 7 Field Office in Thomson. She spent three years with the commercial gambling unit before transferring to the Cyber Crime Center in 2018. She was promoted in 2021 to special agent in charge of the Region 7 Field Office, where she served until her recent promotion.

“It is my distinct privilege to promote Sara Lue to the rank of special agent in charge of our Cyber Crime Center,” said GBI director Mike Register. “I look forward to having her continued leadership in the Cyber Crime Center.”

The mission of the center, known as G3C, is to assist local and state law enforcement with investigations of cyber-related criminal activity, including online fraud, hacking and the proliferation of digital media related to criminal activity and organized crime, according to a GBI statement. It is housed in the Georgia Cyber Center in downtown Augusta.

“Sara Lue makes it a priority to invest in those around her, and her leadership will positively impact the continued success of the Cyber Crime Center,” said Cynthia Adkins, director of the GBI investigative division, the GBI’s largest.

Lue has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Agnes Scott College and a Master of Business Administration in Management from Georgia Southern University.

The GBI has just under 900 employees and a budget of $147.5 million. Its four divisions are the Georgia Crime Information Center, the GBI Crime Lab, Investigations and the Legal division.
