Aiken County Coroner investigating Tuesday morning fatal wreck

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office is investigating a wreck involving a semi-truck that took the life of an Alabama man on Tuesday, June 18.

According to Darryl Ables, Aiken County Coroner, the accident took place at approximately 2:30 a.m. at the 35-mile marker on the westbound lane of I-20.

“A 2005 Kenworth truck was traveling west on I-20 when it suffered a tire blowout, causing it to exit the left side of the interstate and crash into several trees,” Ables said.

The driver was identified as Emmanuel D. Jones, 28, of Montgomery, Ala, Ables said. Jones was ejected from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner’s office, along with South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating. An autopsy is scheduled to take place in Newberry.
