Aiken County Coroner provides update on Saturday morning traffic fatality

A 19-year-old from Philadelphia was killed on Interstate 20 near mile marker 7 in North Augusta Saturday morning.

Agustin Choc-Pop died from blunt force injuries in the July 9 accident. Choc-Pop was a passenger in a 2010 Kia sedan traveling west on I-20, according to Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables.  He was pronounced dead at 5:56 a.m. Saturday.

A second passenger, an unidentified 17-year-old from Philadelphia, was transported to Augusta University Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 4:31 p.m. Monday from injuries received in the crash.

At 4:42 a.m. Saturday, the driver of a 2010 Kia sedan was traveling west on Interstate 20 at in North Augusta when the vehicle hit a disabled vehicle from an earlier accident, according to a previous report.

The Kia was then struck in the rear by a 2012 Dodge Charger.

The driver and the 17-year-old passenger were taken to the hospital.

There was no additional information on the driver.

The identification of the second passenger is pending notification of next of kin.

“Efforts are being concentrated on locating this victim family who may live on the west coast,” Ables wrote.
