An Aiken County deputy is on administrative leave during an investigation into his decision Tuesday morning to shoot at a Warrenville woman who drove away from a traffic stop.

No one was injured, and suspect Brittany Norton was eventually captured and arrested. The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the officer-involved shooting.

Deputy Christopher Williams stopped a black Nissan Pathfinder near the intersection of Howlandville Road near Cemetery Road around 10 a.m. Tuesday. He shot at her vehicle during a confrontation, sheriff’s Capt. Eric Abdullah said.

“Norton drove away from the traffic stop location and was pursued to the 200 block of Schley Street,” he said.

Norton, 29, of Warrenville, was taken into custody and charged with failure to stop for blue light and possession of a Schedule IV substance. She was charged last summer with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute marijuana, but the offense was later dismissed in December.
