Aiken County man killed in home after shooter fires from road

An Aiken County man was fatally shot early Monday inside his home from a shooter who likely fired from the roadway, authorities said.

Jatavious K. Harris, 20, of Batesburg, was shot shortly after 1 a.m. Monday inside the residence at 820 Old 96 Indian Trail.

“When deputies arrived at the home, the unresponsive victim, Black male, was found lying on the floor with an apparent gunshot wound,” sheriff’s Capt. Eric Abdullah said. ”Aiken County EMS attempted to resuscitate the victim where he was later pronounced deceased. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office is assisting with this investigation. … Initial developments in this case are that the shots came from the roadway.”
