The mother of a Graniteville teen who was fatally shot on Memorial Day says it’s been hard on her as she prepares to bury her second son this year.
Courtney Davis is mother of 19-year-old Amari Williams, who was shot Monday evening while inside a car in Aiken with his fiancée. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, and police continue to seek his killer.
In early January, Davis’ older son, Tyquandus Cullum, died from an accidental suicide of drugs, his mother said. He was 22. To have her younger son die so senselessly has been overwhelming for his loved ones.
“This is so hard for the family,” Davis said on Tuesday.
The victim’s fiancée, Cesilie Weathrford, set up a GoFundMe page on Monday to help with expenses, and used the fundraiser to describe what happened in the homicide. (GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/72f461f3)
“I was in the car with him as he was the driver and I was the passenger, and we were having a great day,” she wrote. “We just dropped my son off with his father, and we happened to run into his nephew, and we decided to meet him at the park. We were waiting for them as a car came up and (fired) into the car, shooting my fiancé in the head.”
The victim’s mother said she believes the gunfire was meant for someone else.
