Aiken County public schools to release early Wednesday, have delay on Thursday due to Hurricane Idalia

Aiken County Public School District announced Tuesday evening that due to potential rainfall, flooding and high winds from Hurricane Idalia, schools and offices will close early on Wednesday, Aug. 30 and have a delayed started on Thursday, Aug. 31.

“…Wednesday, Aug. 30, all schools will dismiss students two hours early. Breakfast and lunch will be served in our schools tomorrow prior to the early dismissal. All after-school activities scheduled for tomorrow, including Quest Zone, practices and events will be cancelled. Students at the Center for Innovative Learning (CIL) will have a remote learning day on Wednesday due to the early dismissal schedule.

Thursday, Aug. 31, all schools will operate on a two-hour delay. Due to Thursday’s delayed start, breakfast will not be served,” said the school district in a statement.

Afternoon classes at the Aiken County Career & Technology Center on Wednesday, Aug. 30, and morning classes on Thursday, Aug. 31, are cancelled, the statement said.

ACPSD employees need to please check their district email for further details or speak with their supervisor with any questions they may have. 

“Weather-related decisions to alter our school operations are never easy to make and we recognize the inconvenience that these changes have on our families. Weather systems can be unpredictable and we will continue to monitor this storm alongside local Emergency Management Officials. Please stay tuned to district communications for any future updates. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we make the best possible decisions to ensure the safety of our students, staff and families,” the statement said.
