The Aiken County Public School District (ACPSD) has recently announced Nic Carroll as the new executive director of technology.
With over two decades of experience in educational technology, digital learning and cybersecurity, officials of ACPSD are expecting Carroll to bring a wealth of expertise thanks to his passion for advancing student success through innovative and secure digital ecosystems.
“His leadership will continue to elevate the district’s commitment to equitable, future-ready education,” according to a press release from ACPSD.
In his new role, Carroll will be tasked with leading strategic IT initiatives to strengthen data integration and governance, enhancing cybersecurity, and providing cutting-edge learning tools and resources for students and staff.
“I’m thrilled to be taking on this new role, where I can combine my passion for technology with Aiken County Public Schools’ dedication to fostering future-ready, globally mindful, and productive citizens,” Carroll said.
In addition to over 20 years experience of leadership roles in educational technology, Carroll’s career has also featured classroom teaching.
“Technology has the power to create truly equitable learning experiences, providing every student with the cutting-edge tools and resources they need to succeed in the 21st century,” he said.
At Columbia County School District in Georgia, where Carroll served as the director of digital learning, IT integrations, & media services, he oversaw the implementation of over 100 information systems and led data governance for 29,000 students and 4,000 employees.
“These diverse experiences have shaped his perspective on how technology can enhance teaching and learning,” according to a press release from ACPSD.
He also created a district-wide professional learning micro-credentialing program and facilitated the rapid migration and scaling of three major enterprise-grade learning tools within a single week.
Prior to his tenure in Columbia County, Carroll served as the Information & Technology Coordinator at North Gwinnett High School in Gwinnett County Public Schools, where he supervised training for 200 staff members and managed technology integration for 3,500 students.
His work included designing technology-rich learning programs to promote digital-age best practices and ensuring that staff and students were equipped with tools to succeed in an increasingly digital educational landscape.
“Nic Carroll’s visionary leadership and technical expertise make him an invaluable addition to our team,” said ACPSD Superintendent Corey Murphy.
Currently pursuing his doctor of education in curriculum & instruction from Liberty University, Carroll holds an educational specialist degree in curriculum & Instruction from Liberty University, as well as a master of arts in teaching secondary education from Georgia College & State University, and undergraduate degrees in political science and religion from the University of Georgia.
“His expertise in cybersecurity is underscored by numerous industry certifications, including CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), CompTIA Security+ and others,” stated a press release from ACPSD.
Carroll is also a certified Google workspace administrator and trainer, Microsoft and Google certified educator, and a member of the Google Instructional Advisory Board, the 1EdTech Technical Advisory Board, the Center for Digital Education, and the Cyber Education Taskforce with the CSRA Alliance for Fort Gordon.
“His proven ability to integrate advanced technologies, develop strategic policies, and foster collaboration will help our district provide an exceptional digital learning environment for all students and staff,” said Murphy.
As he steps into this new position, Carroll said he is eager to collaborate with the district’s talented educators and staff.
“I’m excited to build on the district’s strong foundation and work with our exceptional teachers and staff to cultivate a culture of innovation and excellence,” he said. “Together, we’ll ensure that all students in Aiken County have access to a safe, secure, and engaging digital learning environment where they can thrive and contribute to our vibrant community.”
