Aiken police have captured a man accused of shooting up his ex-girlfriend’s home last month while she had five children inside.

Convicted felon La Edward Williamson, 29, is facing a long list of felonies after the gun violence. The domestic-related shootings could have ended in a bloodbath, but fortunately left only damage to the victim’s residence.

Police responded in the wee hours of June 18 to gunfire on Sommers Avenue. The victim said Williamson had stolen her vehicle, entered her house with a handgun, shot into her home and fled the scene.

The victim said she had broken up with Williamson several months before the shooting and he had moved out. But he kept sending her texts, threatening to shoot up her home. Williamson is a convicted felon who served time for robbery in Horry County. He also has a long history of domestic violence convictions, including one in neighboring Lexington County.

Sometime around 2 a.m. June 18, Williamson allegedly stole his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle with the keys he still possessed, an Aiken Public Safety report says. He later returned to a wooded area near the house, walked to the home and entered using a key he still had.

“(The victim) and her daughter both forced him out of the residence,” the report says.

But Williamson retrieved the car, drove back to the house and fired at least five rounds toward a bedroom that they used to share, the report says.

As police interviewed the victim, Williamson called her and threatened to return with more gunfire.

Williamson was finally captured early Tuesday while driving around with an open container of alcohol. He was served with warrants for six counts of attempted murder as well as discharging a firearm into a dwelling, grand larceny, burglary, weapon possession and more. He was charged with 16 offenses in total, according to a booking sheet.

An Aiken Public Safety report lists his current address as Little River, S.C.
