Aiken Police: Kalmia Plaza incident was not kidnapping, but a medical emergency

Date: August 02, 2023

UPDATE FROM AIKEN POLICE: “Through the investigation it has been discovered that a crime did not occur, and this was, in fact, a case of an individual experiencing a medical emergency who was being assisted by family members. This information has been confirmed through a collaborative effort between the Aiken Department of Public Safety and the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.”

Original story:

Aiken police are investigating a possible kidnapping. Officers responded to the Kalmia Plaza shopping center Wednesday.

“It was reported that an adult female was forced from the parking lot into a white SUV,” a press release says. “Investigators have reviewed surveillance footage and determined the female victim was forced to the vehicle by a black female and unknown race male. The vehicle is a white Nissan Xterra. Investigators do not believe this to be a random victim.”

Information from the community is vital to solving this and any crime. Anyone with information on this crime is urged to call Aiken Department of Public Safety at (803) 642-7620 or submit an anonymous online tip at www.cityofaikensc.gov/offices/public-safety/crime-tip/
