Celebrating the holiday season, the Aiken Symphony is partnering with a vocalist and ballet company to present a Christmas show on Sunday, Dec. 10, at the University of South Carolina Aiken.

The “Home for the Holidays” concert will take place at 3 p.m. in USC Aiken’s Etherredge Center, located at 340 Scholar Loop.

Featuring the Aiken Civic Ballet, South Carolina’s longest continually operating dance company, and led by Music Director and Conductor Scott Weiss, the ensemble includes professional classical instrumentalists from South Carolina and Georgia.

Jazz vocalist Tish Oney, a Greenville, S.C. native, will also be in the program. Recently performing with the critically acclaimed Detroit Symphony, Oney will sing several holiday favorites alongside the Aiken Symphony, including: “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town,” “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” “White Christmas” and “Winter Wonderland.”

A delightful composition for two bassoons and orchestra titled “BasSOON it will be Christmas,” a playful blend of famous orchestral bassoon excerpts and well-known Christmas tunes, will also be presented in the show’s festive presentation.

Adding movement to the program, the ballet will join the evening concert with dance selections from “The Nutcracker.”

Commemorating the symphony’s ninth season in the new year, the performance will endeavor to showcase the organization’s goal in providing artistic leadership to the greater Aiken community “through the presentation of symphonic music that educates, entertains and enriches the human spirit,” according to a press release from the symphony.

The show will also mark the first concert of the symphony’s new pop series, the other being “May the Fourth Be With You,” happening on May 4, 2024.

“Get ready to sing along and be swept into the spirit of the season,” stated the press release from the Aiken Symphony.

Ticket prices range from $40-55, depending on seat selection and can include fees.

Active military members are eligible for $10 off each ticket by calling 803-295-0313 or via the symphony’s website at aikensymphony.com.

Free parking will be available in parking lots “C” and “D,” adjacent to the Etherredge Center.
