Aiken woman found dead on highway from hit and run

Aiken authorities are investigating a hit and run death from Thursday night that claimed the life of a 20-year-old woman.

Around 11:20 p.m. Thursday, witnesses notified police about the body laying in the median along Richland Avenue near Dyches Street.

“Preliminary investigation showed the victim had been struck by a vehicle that fled the scene,” Coroner Darryl Ables said in a press release.

The victim was identified as Tamia Jackson. She was pronounced dead on scene and will be autopsied in Newberry, Ables said.

The Aiken Department of Public Safety is continuing with the investigation.
