Alleged car thief denied bond in Columbia County

A man accused of stealing cars in three states, including Columbia County in Georgia, was denied bond Monday, Dec. 5.

Tony Curtis Abrams, 40, has been in the Columbia County jail since March 18 following his extradition from South Carolina. He has pleaded not guilty in Columbia County Superior Court to multiple counts of theft.

According to court documents, between August 2020 and August 2021, Abrams allegedly stole vehicles from four dealerships by switching out key fobs and returning after the businesses closed to take the vehicles. He allegedly took two vehicle in one night from Milton Ruben.

Abrams has a long history of vehicle thefts, including 17 cases in South Carolina, and three pending cases in North Carolina.

Defense attorney Tianna Bias said Abrams, a father of eight, turned himself into his probation officer when he was told of the charges in Georgia.

Chief Judge James G. Blanchard Jr. denied bond, finding Abrams posed a possible flight risk and a risk of committing additional crimes.

Abrams is set for trial Jan. 9.
