Allen draws Democratic opponent, Richardson and Pearson qualify to run in primary

There were few surprises in qualifying Monday for area May 21 party primaries.

Republican Rick W. Allen qualified to run for another term as U.S. Representative for the 12th Congressional District, a position he’s held for a decade.

Challenging Allen, retired Army veteran and military contractor Daniel Jackson qualified Monday to run as a Democrat against Allen in November.

The two hopefuls in the March 12 runoff to replace District 125 Rep. Barry Fleming, R-Harlem, qualified Monday. Gary Richardson and C.J. Pearson, both qualified to run in the Republican primary for the same seat.

Mark Newton, a Republican whose District 127 includes parts of Richmond and Columbia Counties, qualified to run again for the seat he’s held since 2017.

Sen. Harold Jones, D-Augusta, qualified to run again for the state Senate District 22 seat he’s held since 2014.

Republican former candidate William C. Harris qualified for another run for House District 126, held by one-term Democrat Rep. Lynn Gladney of Hephzibah.
