The Greater Clarks Hill Regional Library Board introduced a new Regional Director during a called board meeting on April 1.

Amanda Ham, who comes from the Harlem Library where she has served as branch manager since 2017 and who has been involved with the library system for almost 25 years, received her Masters of Library and Information Science from Valdosta University in 2016.

Ham’s passion for the library sprouted in middle school when she first began volunteering at The Harlem Library. In high school, she got a job at The Euchee Creek Library, which is now permanently closed.

“I just fell in love with libraries and what they bring to their local communities,” she said. “They’re so much more than just a library.”

One of Ham’s main roles now will be to oversee the multiple libraries in the four counties that are contained within the Greater Clarks Hill system – Columbia, Burke, Lincoln and Warren – ensuring that libraries comply with state guidelines.

Ham said she hopes “to keep the library system moving forward, bring the region together and just keep the region moving forward.”
