Plans to open an extended stay hotel at a former Clarion Suites off Washington Road are going before the Augusta Planning Commission on Wednesday.
Wynn Hotels Augusta has petitioned Augusta-Richmond County Planning for a special exception to allow it to build a dual branded hotel — LaQuinta by Wyndham and Hawthorne Suites — on its property at 113 Charlestowne Way.
The 1.83-acre parcel is zoned B-2 General Business, which allows extended stay hotels via special exception.
The hotel would be constructed within the shell of the Clarion building, the renovation of which would include a four-story extended stay portion with 57 rooms. The entire structure would ultimately have 112 rooms.
Wynn Hotels purchased the property in 2022. The letter of intent accompanying the special exception request notes that the company subdivided three-acre parcel and sold a portion 7Brew Coffeehouse, which opened one of its kiosks there earlier this year, with the address 105 Charlestowne Way.
Developers Pace Living LLC is looking to convert the 150-room Ramada hotel at 210 Reservation Way into a studio apartment complex, and has requested the property be rezoned from Light Industrial to R-3C Multi-family Residential.
In its letter of intention, Pace Living cites demand for workforce housing being at “an all time high,” and the property’s proximity to Fort Gordon, as motivating factors for the redevelopment.
Jeff Camp, a builder out of Atlanta is seeking to develop a subdivision in south Augusta. He is requesting to rezone some 10 acres along Meadowbrook Drive, near Redd Drive, from Agricultural and R1-A One-family residential to R-1C One-family Residential.
The proposed neighborhood would consist of 29 single-family parcels, just more than 60-feet wide. The plans include a new public street, with a 60-foot right-of-way, connecting to the Southdale subdivision via Nighthawk Drive.
The Augusta Planning Commission will hold its July meeting on Wednesday, July 5 at 3 p.m. in the Municipal Building.
