The City of Grovetown approved a new member to its Planning Commission at the city council meeting on Monday, Nov. 14.
Khristy Murray was approved to fill the current vacancy in the Grovetown Planning Commission.
“For the 21 years I have been invested in my kids, now that they’re off to school, I feel like I have more time to dedicate to serving the community here in Grovetown,” Murray said at the council meeting.
Murrays says she is currently a program coordinator to house homeless veterans in 20 counties in the CSRA. Murray will now be a part of the planning commission committee beginning at their next meeting on Thursday.
Several announcements were also made at Monday’s council meeting.
Grovetown will be holding its 48th annual Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. According to the City of Grovetown’s website, the parade will travel down Horizon South Parkway, turning right on to Wrightsboro Road and end at the intersection of Wrightsboro Road and Robinson Ave.
Grovetown will also have a festival the same day from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The festival will consist of live entertainment, food and craft vendors, photos with Santa, a train ride and more.
A new cellphone app is also expected to be finished here in the coming weeks for residents of Grovetown. This app will be another way to access all of the city information including the city website, phone numbers, notifications and alerts, social media page, email contacts and more.
“We are very excited to announce that it is near in completion,” said Public Information Officer Jordan Johnson.
“It is powerful, it is exciting and you’re going to be able to interact with the citizens and the citizens are going to be able to interact with you on a whole new level with a cell phone anytime and anywhere,” said IT Manager David Nile.
The 2023-2028 SPLOST list was approved on the recent voting ballot, which means upgrades to many things will happen in the future, including Liberty Park. Liberty Park is going to get a huge expansion in the future according to Grovetown Finance Manager and Assistant City Administrator Bradley Smith.
Designs and plans have yet to be announced as it may be a few years before the project will be underway.
