Thomson High School running back Anthony “Tre Tre” Jeffery is heading to Kent State University to play football.
He signed a letter committing to the Kent State on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at Thomson High School in front of family, friends, coaches and his teammates. He said he was blessed to be able to play D1 college football and he picked Kent State because the football program is still trying to establish itself.
“I felt like with every other program, they’re established,” Jeffery. “I felt with Kent, they’re still getting together, and I wanted to be a part of that, be a part of that whole wave, that whole journey of everything getting together. I wanted to be able to say I had a hand in that. When they went over everything with me, I said I wanted to be a part of that. when Kent came to me, I knew it was right.”
Jeffery, who will start at Kent State in January, said what he’ll take with him from Thomson is not only his talent, but his dedicated work ethic.

“Talent can only get you so far,” he said. “It’s a lot of talent within the state of Georgia, but with that talent you’ve got to have the hard work that comes with that talent. If you don’t have that, talent means nothing.”
Jeffery added that it now feels real that he’ll be a Golden Eagle in January.
“I feel like a chapter is coming to an end and another one is about to reopen,” he added.
Over his four years at Thomson, Jeffery has had some impressive stats. In 2021, he had 47 carries for 292 yards and three touchdowns. The 2022 season saw him with 121 carries, 1,015 rushing yards, 18 touchdowns, five receptions for 59 yards and one touchdown. In the 2023 season, he had 133 carries, 1,138 rushing yards, 19 touch downs and six receptions for 84 yards and one touchdown. The 2024 season, he had 184 carries, 1,693 rushing yards, 27 touchdowns and five receptions for 118 yards and one touchdown.
Family support
Jeffery said the support of his family meant a lot to him and he wouldn’t be where he is without them. His mom, Cassandra Hanson, said she was proud of him and couldn’t wait to see what the next chapter held.
“I’m excited to see what God is about to do because this season was amazing and the next season, God is just going to blow our minds,” Hanson said. “I’m just excited about the ride. But it’s still bittersweet because this is my baby.”
Lee Ivey, his uncle and youth football coach, said it’s been great to see Jeffery follow his dreams that he’s had since he was five. It was then he told Ivey he wanted to play in the NFL.
“To see him put in the work ethic that it took and when he had the choice to go to IMG Academy and to see him chose to stay here locally to play so that other kids in this area could see what he was doing,” Ivey said. “So, to be able to go to the next level and play for Kent State is just a blessing.”
