Date: January 25, 2021

In her other life, our Editor-in-Chief Debbie Reddin van Tuyll is a professor at Augusta University. She is an authority on journalism in the Civil War-era, and last November she led a panel on the history of the press in the western United States during that conflict. C-Span picked up the presentation, which is available on their website. Her husband Hubert, an occasional columnist for The Augusta Press, is also a speaker in this panel.

Van Tuyll also speaks in a panel on the common soldier about the North’s monuments to Union soldiers. Both presentations were part of the 2020 Symposium on the 19th Century Press, Civil War and Free Expression, and both are from chapters in forth coming books on the western press and how the press dealt with common soldiers.
