Armed man in wig holds up Graniteville bank

Date: July 07, 2023

Aiken County authorities are looking for a bank robbery suspect who held up the Security Federal Bank in Graniteville on Friday.

Around 9:12 a.m. Friday, deputies responded to 50 Canal Street after being alerted to a gunman demanding money. It was reported that the suspect entered the bank, brandished a handgun and demanded money from bank employees, sheriff’s Capt. Eric Abdullah said.

“After taking an underdetermined amount of money, he walked out of the bank to where witnesses saw him drive away in a light gold Ford Explorer,” the captain said.

Investigators are seeking the community’s assistance in identifying this suspect. The gunman was described as a white male, wearing blue jeans, black tennis shoes, blue shirt, a wig and sunglasses. Witnesses also saw that the suspect had what appeared to be a visible surgical scar on his chest. He should be considered as armed and dangerous.

If anyone has any information on this ongoing investigation, video or information on this suspect, we ask them to contact the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office at (803) 648-6811.
