As Evans tapas restaurant Stay Social Tap & Table waits for a judge to rule on its alcohol license, other business is brewing in Columbia County.
A new location for a real estate school and brokerage, as well as a diversified lodging spot are the subjects of two recent rezoning requests submitted to Columbia County Planning.
Augusta-based Douglas Lane Real Estate Group is petitioning to rezone a parcel at 425 Furys Ferry Rd. in Martinez from Planned Development District to Professional. According to the application, the brokerage firm seeks to set up offices and a real estate school at the building along the intersection of Furys Ferry and Bolling Road.
Cricket and Brad Willis of Artsy Me are seeking to rezone B.C. Kabat Farms, their 18-acre property at 6297 Cobbham Rd., from Residential Agricultural to Special district. Their plans for the land and the space include opening an Air B&B, and converting the barn on the property into an “industrial chic” micro-event space for art and gardening classes, small gatherings and other events.

Later phases for the land include produce stands, a greenhouse/event space, and tiny homes for rental.
Both the Furys Ferry and Cobbham Road properties are scheduled for the Planning Commission’s Dec. 1 meeting.
Meanwhile, in Richmond County, the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce hosted two ribbon cuttings this week.
On Tuesday, Max Fitness Augusta its ribbon cutting. Formerly Gold’s Gym, the facility at 270 Bobby Jones Expy. rebranded as Max Fitness, amid upgrades and some renovations that include a new childcare facility.
On Wednesday, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, the Metro Chamber co-hosted with the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Augusta Gift Baskets.
