This week saw three restaurant openings in Augusta.

Pineapple Ink Tavern returned downtown on Wednesday, after a hiatus amid COVID-19 and renovations. The restaurant and bar had its grand opening on June 6 at 1002 Broad St., complete with Cuban-themed décor, cuisine and cigars.

Tacocat, the latest restaurant concept by Sean Wight, also opened on Wednesday at 990 Broad St., in a suite right behind Wight’s other recent concept, Pho-Ramen’l. The Frog Hollow Group has been putting the word about the stylish new taco spot since summer of 2020, as work continued on the location, which formerly housed Blue Sky Kitchen.

The Augusta Metro-Chamber is scheduled to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Pineapple Ink on Wednesday, July 13. Before that, on Monday, July 11 the Chamber will welcome the arrival of chain Surcheros Fresh Mex, with a grand opening at 10 a.m. Surcheros is a Tex-Mex casual dining franchise, headquartered in Alpharetta, Ga. Its new Augusta location will be at 2907 Washington Rd.

Bank of America gave the Salvation Army of Augusta a $20,000 grant to fund its Job Skills Training Program, a “tuition-free program that provides men and women of low income the opportunity to gain the practical skills necessary to support achievement in personal growth and employment success,” according to a news release from the Salvation Army of Augusta.

“We are so grateful to Bank of America for their grant for our Job Skills Training Program,” said Major Jonathan Raymer, Area Commander and Senior Kroc Officer of the Greater Augusta Area in the release. “In addition to their financial support, they also support our program by teaching classes on financial literacy – giving our participants a foundation to make sound financial decisions in the future.”
