Arrest made in Grovetown’s Goodale Park vandalism

Grovetown’s Police Department has made an arrest after Goodale Park was vandalized Saturday evening according to Chief Jamey Kitchens.

James Smith of the 300 block of Whiskey Road in Grovetown was arrested at approximately 3:47 p.m. Sunday. He was later transported to the Columbia County Detention Center and charged with criminal damage to property and interference with government property.

Smith was also involved in a hit and run accident in Richmond County Saturday night and charged with various offenses including driving under the influence according to a press release from the Grovetown Police Department.

The park received extensive damage to the fencing surrounding the dog park. The pavilion area and dog park are currently closed to the public until further notice while the tennis courts and basketball courts remain open.
