The North Augusta Department of Public Safety was called to an alleged assault over the weekend at Riverview Park. It was one of two incidents at the park on Saturday, May 1, 2021.
The first incident was reported just after noon during a youth basketball game.
According to the incident report, a witness told the officer a man walked out of the bleachers onto the basketball court and hit the juvenile victim with a closed fist. The man then left the park in a gray sedan.

A second officer on the way to the park spotted the vehicle and stopped it.
The driver, identified as Jerome Mobley of Waynesboro, confirmed he left the bleachers. He said his son was one of the players and a member of the other team received a penalty for rough play. Mobley said he went onto the court to assist his son. He said the player from the other team hit him, but video showed Mobley was the primary aggressor.
A judge issued a warrant yesterday for Mobley’s arrest for assault and battery in the third degree. NADPS Public Information Officer Lieutenant Tim Thornton said Mobley has agreed to turn himself in.

The second incident happened just before 9 p.m., also during a basketball game on Saturday.
That incident report said a victim told officers a man struck him during a disagreement. A witness said he saw the incident, grabbed the suspect and took him out of the building.
No one was able to identify the suspect.
These incidents are the second and third reported at the park within a week. The first happened on April 25, 2021.
In that incident, NADPS was called to a fight during games sponsored by Lineage of Champions of Augusta. People were gone from the park when officers arrived. No witnesses came forward and no one has filed a complaint, so that investigation is closed.
The incidents happened when the park was being rented for basketball tournaments. In light of the three incidents, North Augusta Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director Rick Meyer said, “Tournament organizers will be required to pay for extra security going forward.”
