It might be another Tuesday on the calendar, but for “Star Wars” fans, May 4 is something special.

“May the fourth is a national holiday in my book,” said “Star Wars” fan Taylor Medeiros of Aiken. “It’s a celebration of great filmmaking, acting, heroes and villains.”

May 4 is also known by some as “Star Wars” Day because of the word play on the date and the quintessential “Star Wars” quote “May the force be with you.”

The home page of the starwars.com website is devoted to things to do to celebrate Star Wars Day, and a couple of local “Star Wars”-related events are taking place.

A May The Fourth Be With You art exhibition will open at noon May 4 at the 600 Broad building, according to Regina Brejda of 4P Studios, who is curating the event.

Nine artists have created multiple works related to the theme of “Star Wars.” They are in different media including watercolor, ceramics, and pen and ink. An opening reception is planned from 7 to 9 p.m., May 7.

Brejda said the idea has been floating around for a while, and she hopes to grow on the theme next year.

“I’d love to do some kind of themed crawl, like a pub crawl,” she said.

She’d also like to do a costume contest. While it’s not in the plans for this year, she said there’s nothing to stop people from wearing costumes to the opening reception May 7.

Maybe Luke, Leia and a few stormtroopers will be part of First Friday, she said.

The comedy force will be with people at the Soul Bar Tuesday. Hosted by Rick Stein, the no-cover comedy night will feature Skyler Q. Andrews, Andrew Havok, Brian O’Neill and Marcus Gantt.

Also downtown, Brejda will be hosting trivia at Farmhaus, and while it won’t be completely focused on “Star Wars,” she said there will be “Star Wars”  questions thrown in.

As far as Medeiros, his Star Wars Day plans include watching the premiere of “Star Wars: The Bad Batch” on Disney+ and ending the night with his rebel friends, he said.

“’Star Wars’ is a family. If it wasn’t for ‘Star Wars,’ I would be lost,” he said.
