Helping the people of Ukraine, but also feeling unable to do so, seemed to be at the forefront of most conversations Regina Brejda had recently.

So, when artist Rachel Bingaman suggested an online art auction to raise money for a charity, Brejda, the owner of 4P Studios, was immediately on board.

“On March 3, I put out a call for submissions,” said Brejda of the online event that began March 17 and ends March 24. “I’ve got 50 active auction items from upwards of 40 artists.”

Most of the artists involved with the auction are local, she said.

Some of the works are related to Ukraine. They contain sunflowers, Ukraine’s national flowers, or incorporate the country’s colors of blue and yellow. Others do not.

Proceeds from the art auction will benefit Water Mission, a North Charleston, S.C. based “Christian engineering nonprofit that builds safe water, sanitation and hygiene solutions in developing countries and disaster areas,” according to Water Mission’s website.

Water Mission is working with churches and civic groups in that region “to help with evacuations and meet physical and emotional needs for refugees and people still in Ukraine,” the website said.

“We went live at 9 a.m. this morning and are at about $1,200 raised so far. We’d really love to raise about $5,000 to be able to give to Water Mission,” said Brejda Thursday afternoon.

Most of the artists have pledge to give all the money from the auction directly to Water Mission.
