So much art; so many shout outs.

I want to take a minute to recognize Patrick Krohn, a former staff photographer for The Augusta Chronicle, who now takes photos for his own pleasure.

The Aiken photographer has tapped into his artistic side with his images of late, and people are taking notice.

He received an honorable mention in the Nature Conservancy’s 2022 photo contest. The awards were announced Sept. 30.

The contest had the “largest global participation ever with entries from 196 countries and territories across six different categories,” according to a news release.

That translates to more than 100,000 images that Krohn rose to the tops of.

“His image “Balance” is of a purple heart flower that was taken in his own front yard,” the news release said.

Krohn was surprised at the honor.

“I was amazed that I had even made it to the finals with this image and one other,” Krohn said. “When I saw so many incredible images from around the world, who knew that something taken right outside my front door would be of interest.”

More kudos go to the cast of the Augusta Junior Player’s Sister Act Jr, who received first place at the Georgia Theatre Conference, which was held Oct. 12-15 in Kingsland, Ga.

Congrats to Roy Lewis as best director, Danielle Vergara won for best choreography; Kelsey Johnson was best actress and Raleigh Koutalidis was named best supporting actor. Also the ensemble was named the best.

A couple of events on are scheduled for the last few weeks of the month.

The Edgefield County Historical Society will present J. Drew Lanham, the Distinguished Professor of Wildlife Ecology at Clemson University and  Poet Laureate of Edgefield, at its Oct. 23 meeting at 3 p.m. at the Joanne T. Rainsford Discovery Center on Main Street in Edgefield.

Lanham will speak on Mark Catesby, the 18th century naturalist who visited South Carolina and Edgefield County in 1722 and 1723.

Coming up on Oct. 28 is the WestoBOO! Bash.

Circus-type performers are expected to take part in the creepy carnival.

The party will be from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. at the Old Academy of Richmond County, 540 Telfair St.

There will be “handcrafted games with unique prizes,” and music. Be sure to wear your creepiest circus themed attire.
