Karen Gordon brought art to life.
At Saturday’s Wet Paint Party, Gordon was dressed as one of the people captured in Jonathan Green’s painting “Silver Slipper Club.”
Like the figure she represented, her back was facing the party-goers in Sacred Heart Cultural Center, but she turned from the creation of Green’s painting, created by Ray Sturkey, and stepped into the crowd.
Being part of the event was something new for Gordon.
“I thought it would be easy, but it’s not,” said Gordon who took her part in the painting at several different intervals. The first time she appeared she had to hold her position for 10 minutes.
Gordon said about 90 seconds into the pose, it had already seemed like forever.
With a theme of “Masters of Art,” the event had several mannequin/models who stepped out of masterful works of art.

Becca Marie Burlison wore two different tutus as she represented the dancers from some of the works of Edgar Degas, and Laurel McGregor transformed into “Portrait of Adele Block-Bauer I” by Gustav Klimt.
Ooollee Bricker came up with the costumes for the models. She’s been participating with the Greater Augusta Arts Council’s event for 12 years.

At first, Bricker did a runway show. The former venue for the party was the Julian Smith Casino, but when it moved to Sacred Heart, Bricker said she didn’t have a runway. She switched gears and built themes around the models and costumes.
The Wet Paint Party is an event for members of the arts council. Also, it’s an opportunity for artists to sell their works, according to Brenda Durant, executive director.
Art in the event had to be a recently created work, she said.

“Augustan Artisans on Films” featuring the photography of Mark Albertin will be on display March 3 through May 4 at the City Gallery in the Municipal Building.
“Mark Albertin is a lover of film photography. Unlike sports photographers, which uses fast shutter speeds, Albertin likes to take his time in getting to know the subject, often taking hours per session. With there being no LCD screen to instantly show his progress, he waits to be surprised in the dark room. The magic that happens under the red safelights as he agitates his photographs in their trays captivate him. Eventually the process reveals the image he had labored over with a confirmation that the shoot was done correctly,” according to the Facebook event for the exhibition. In creating this series, “Augusta Artisans on Film,” Albertin’s goal was to capture a few of the many craftspeople who make up the Central Savannah River Region. Not digitally, but on film.”
