ATC Development is moving its headquarters downtown, it announced on March 31, setting up shop at the former location of Shared Space at 901 Greene St.
“It’s a beautiful space,” said CEO Woody Belangia. “It’s certainly sexier than I would have designed, but we’re really excited about it.”
The rental property developer acquired the 15,000-square foot building on March 24. SharedSpace of Atlanta tried operating a co-working office rental from there in 2019. In February, the building was announced as being up for auction.
ATC will be moving from its current offices on Wimbledon Drive, in the Forest Hills Racquet Club area. Belangia and Vice President of Development and Construction Kurt Eyring had been the lookout for ways to remedy growing issues with office space.
“We’ve renovated the inside of this building at least three times, and we just keep running out of room,” said media marketing director Courtney Murrah. “They’ve been keeping an eye open on anything we can do. Worst case scenario, divide up the company between development and construction sides; do two offices.”
Belangia learned that the Greene Street site was going up for auction from a friend. When he went to investigate the opportunity, he found that it was, Murrah says, “the perfect layout,” with over 40 offices available for 35 employees.
“Our offices are three stories. I’m on the third floor with accounting, and I’m in marketing; so we’re just kind of all squished together right now,” said Murrah. “If I need any information about something, it’s three flights of stairs up and down. So one floor with all of us together is the most important part. All the departments in one area.”
Alongside the added breathing room, ATC will be planted closer to some of its own projects. Two blocks away, at 1211 Greene St., is the historical Stovall-Barnes House, which ATC purchased in 2021 and rehabilitated to be offered as an “AirBnb-type place,” says Murrah.
In February ATC broke ground on its mid-rise apartment complex venture, The Standard, at the corner of 12th and Greene Streets.
“The shift of our center of gravity seems to be more toward downtown Augusta, rather than west Augusta like we’ve done in the past,” said Belangia.
Murrah says that ATC Development should be ready to move staff and resources to the new offices in May or early June.
