When a football player rushes 29 times for 296 yards and four touchdowns, people take notice.

That’s what Westside’s Xzavier Green did in a win over Josey on Friday, Oct. 1.

“The offensive line was working good, and the tight ends were doing a great job,” Green said.

Westside is 4-2 at this point in the season, and Green’s contributions have been a big reason why.

Green is averaging 200 yards on the ground per game, and he makes up 803 of the team’s 878 rushing yards. Talk about the engine of the offense.

He said he models his game after Adrian Peterson, a former NFL star who enjoyed a 15-year career, amassing nearly 15,000 rushing yards and scoring 124 touchdowns. Green said he emulates Peterson’s strong, hard and fast running style.

An Augusta native, Green has spent his entire playing career as a member of the Westside Patriots.

On Green’s Twitter account, he often shares highlights of his games and tags college coaches and scouts from the around the region. Watch the highlights of his huge performance against Josey here.

“I definitely want to take my game to the next level,” Green said.

A senior, Green said he hasn’t had interest yet from college personnel but with eye-popping performances like the one against Josey, interest can’t be far behind.

The team is getting better each game, Green said, and cutting down on penalties and mental mistakes will help push them higher and higher in the CSRA.

Personally, he said he’s working on breaking tackles and “running over people, if I need to.”

He can catch as well, as he played receiver his sophomore year. Green said he wants to be anywhere on the field that the team needs him to be.

Coach Mike Hamilton echoed that sentiment, saying that Green is always right where he needs to be.

“The success he has experienced couldn’t have happened to a better kid,” Hamilton said. “He’s an example of the good kids we have here at Westside.”

Outside of football, Green runs track. He used to play baseball and basketball but has put his energy into football more than anything as of late.

Green closed it out by saying that he doesn’t talk much — his film and stats talk for him.

Westside goes on the road to do battle with Butler on Friday, Oct. 6.
