Augusta Amateur Players Tour to host first event of the year at West Lake Country Club

Date: March 18, 2023

The Augusta Amateur Players Tour will host its inaugural event for the 2023 season on Monday, March 20 at the West Lake Country Club, tour owner Marcus Maddox announced Friday.

Amateur Players Tour events are for golfers of all ages, separated into five divisions by handicap (18.5 and above to 3.4 and below) so that players can compete against similarly skilled opponents.

The tour will allow members and guests the opportunity to compete at the country club’s renowned course. Five division winners will be awarded Visa gift cards and an optional skins game will be paid in cash. This first tournament of the season comes a week before the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, and two weeks before The Masters Tournament, an opportunity Maddox called “an honor.”

“Augusta National Golf Club has always put an emphasis on amateur golf, and we are continuing to grow the game of golf in our area,” Maddox said. “The tour provides an opportunity for golfers of all skill sets the ability to compete in a first class setting.”

The Augusta tour will continue to host events through September. Participants will may be able to qualify to compete in the North American Championship this year in Myrtle Beach, S.C. after a season long points race.

Last year the Amateur Players Tour, of which the Augusta tour is a chapter, hosted the North American Championship in Nashville, Tenn. where players received over $52,000 in prize money.

The Augusta Amateur Players Tour will host its inaugural event at the West Lake Country Club on Monday, March 20, with tee times beginning at 9 a.m. For more information, visit www.amateurplayerstour.com/augusta.
