Intellisystems has operated for 28 years in downtown Augusta. CEO Kevin Wade is ready to take the business to the next level.
The IT/telecommunications company has invested $2 million in its new space, which will be located at 3687 Wheeler Road.

“The consensus was that now was the perfect time to reunify all of our staff under one big, beautiful, solar-powered roof,” Wade said in a press release. “Furthermore, we felt that a technology firm should embody the very latest in ‘smart building’ advancements so that our Augusta head could serve as a ‘living lab’ to demonstrate just how effective, functional, efficient and comfortable tomorrow’s technology could actually be.”
Wade said the new building will allow for 8,000 square feet of operating space.

New technology will be the theme of the new building, starting with the solar panels Wade mentioned in the press release.
“I’ve wanted to do this for a number of years, and Georgia has passed the legal hurdles necessary for us to do a net meter,” Wade said.
The net meter allows the company to power their building with solar power during the day, and if they produce more power than is needed, they can sell it back to Georgia Power.

High-efficiency heating and cooling, LED lighting and a mesh-wiring network are other advancements that will be folded in.
“We’re an IT firm, so we’re going to have a state of the art cabling infrastructure to connect everything,” the CEO said. “It’ll work effectively and consistently, from WiFi to mobile phones.”

He also mentioned an electronic sound-masking system, something he said is important to a company handling clients’ sensitive data.
The building is designed so that as new technology comes along, it can be tested, developed and potentially marketed and sold if it proves helpful and valuable.
“Our goal is to keep our customers, both small- and medium-sized business customers, from getting hacked,” Wade said. “We create a layered technology security system that’s a combination of software and know-how from our certified engineers. We make it so that for a cyber crook to get in, they’ve got to peel an onion that’s pretty difficult.”
Handling a business’ sensitive data is a huge investment of trust. Wade said the personal connections those businesses have been able to develop with Intellisystems’ technicians over the years helps build that credibility.
“From where the industry came from 28 years ago, we’ve been able to reinvent ourselves multiple times,” Wade said. “The technology industry is a fast-moving business and we’ve been able to withstand that. We had an employee celebrate 20 years with us today, and another celebrating 25. Our customers trust what we’re able to do for them and the advice we give them.”
Intellisystems also has an office in Columbia, S.C., where it has served the area for eight years.
