Augusta boy, 13, was gunman in Sunday murder; Female, 19, arrested as accomplice

Authorities say a 13-year-old Augusta boy is the suspected gunman who fatally shot a man Sunday at Olmstead Homes

Carnell Quiller, who turned 14 on Monday, has been arrested and charged with murder in Sunday’s shooting death of 22-year-old Jaleen Sumpter on C Street in Olmstead Homes, according to a RCSO press release. The shootings also injured a 16-year-old girl.

On Monday, authorities arrested 19-year-old Tydasia Hope for murder and aggravated assault. She is accused of being with Quiller when he shot the two victims.

Hope is being held without bond at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

Richmond County authorities responded to the distress call at 8:05 p.m. Sunday on the 2100 Block of C Street. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Sumpter had been shot in his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second victim, 16-year-old Tremya Blocker, was shot in the leg and was taken to Wellstar MCG Health in stable condition.

Video of the unfolding scene was posted live on Facebook after the shootings with images of officers and paramedics arriving and neighbors reacting to the gun violence in shock.

None of the victims or suspects lived on C Street.
